38. MIRACLES AND THEIR CHARACTER

            66. Before entering upon an explanation of the question, we would make a brief survey of the miracles reported to have been performed by various incarnations and prophets, etc. Many miracles of an extraordinary character, which unmistakably reveal powers not ordinarily possessed by humanity, are ascribed to Rama, Krishna, Gautam Buddha, Jesus Christ, Mohammed, etc. If the miracles in question be looked at for features of similitude, it will be found that the relief of suffering, the protection of followers, the conversion of unbelievers or their vanquishment etc. are the characteristics which might be traced in the majority of the miracles. No regularity or law is, however, discernible in the performance of the miracles. They appear to have been performed on special occasions, and were not always resorted to for the attainment of the objects specified above. On the contrary, the messiah, the prophet, or the incarnation not infrequently allowed himself and his followers to be vanquished, or allowed non-believers to prevail otherwise. It is clear, from what is mentioned above, that miracles cannot be the ordinary means either for protection or cure or success. This furnishes us with an explanation of the question under consideration, and also enables us to explain the extraordinary powers that are exhibited to show off.

  1. Although miracles are wrath of God, yet they are demonstrated and exhibited to establish supremacy of spirituality over matter.

  2. Bhakti based on miracles has no strong foundation. Real bhakti comes only after self realisation, after coming face to face with the divine essence, which resides in all of us.

  3. However, this self realisation is possible only by performance of correct spiritual practices under the able guidance of a tattva darshi Guru.

  4. The creation itself is a great miracle. On seeing this creation and wondering how great and exalted its mechanism is, nobody develops the kind of ardour and zeal, referred to, for having the darshan of its creator nor enquires as to where He is and what He looks like, though knowing that He is omnipotent and omnipresent . None of us who have taken to paramarth, appears to be having true ardour and zeal of this kind. No one knows due to what past sanskar and by what grace of sant Satguru one has been drawn to satsang.

  5. A devotee of a Saint during the course of his/her devotional way of living experiences miracles everyday. Saints normally do not exhibit miracles openly. However, there are some sects like Aughar Sampraday of Baba Keena Ram/Bhagwan Avadhoot Ram of Varanasi whose even newly trained disciples demonstrate/exhibit such miracles very openly. Many times I personally witnessed such miracles. Such miracles consolidate our Faith in spiritualism.
