15. ATTAINMENT OF THE OBJECT OF RELIGION

            28. We find now, where and when it is possible to attain the object of religion stated in the opening pages of this volume. When the spirit gains admission into the purely spiritual region of the Supreme Creator, then it becomes immortal, freed from pain and opposition of every description, and remains absorbed in everlasting rapture of the Supreme Bliss of the majestic vision of the Supreme Creator.

  1. Religion's etymological meaning (re+ligare in Gr.) binding back. Thus the purpose of religion is the union of soul with Supreme soul and ultimately with the Source which is possible through Yog. Yog is a derivative of Sanskrit 'yuj' which means yoking of power of body, mind and soul.

  2. There are many versions or types of Yog viz. Integral Yog, Kundalini Yog, Kriya Yog, Sahaj Yog, Siddha Yog, Surat Shabd Yog, Transcendental Meditation, Zen etc. Based on anatomical position of Ajna Chakra in human body, it may be argued that the version or type of Yog those prescribe to concentrate to meditate at Ajna Chakra is superior to other types.

  3. Yoga (Application) which was based on the control of the body physically and implied that a perfect control over the body and the senses led to knowledge of the ultimate reality. A detailed anatomical knowledge of the human body was necessary to the advancement of yoga and therefore those practising yoga had to keep in touch with medical knowledge. (Romila Thapar, A History of India, Vol. One, Ch. 7 The Evolution of The Classical Pattern)

  4. This was the status of yoga about one thousand five hundred years ago (A.D.300-700). The science of yoga seems to be in a very advanced stage Now, once again in modern age the science of yoga is being revived. Radhasoami Faith community has to take lead role in this direction with an open mind.

  5. Object of religion and 'parmartha' has identical meaning. "The word 'parmartha' (परमार्थ) is a compound of two words -'parama' (परम) I.e. highest and 'artha' (अर्थ) I.e. object or end of life. Spiritual development and the realization of one's Self or 'Atman' and of the Supreme Being are considered to be the highest object of man's life. Religion helps in the achievement of this 'parmartha' and assuch, religion or religious activity has often been identified with 'parmartha'. (Footnote - Satsang-ke-Upadesa by His Holiness Sahab ji Maharaj Sir Anand Sarup Kt.)

  6. Thus, 'parmartha', religion and yoga are identical terms. The experimental technique that helps us to verify the reality of existence is called by the term Yoga. Yoga is a technique of increasing the depth of our observation. Concentration, meditation and realization are three principal practices of yoga. (Prof. N. A. Dabholkar).
